Our Projects
Community-based Holistic Development for Marginalized Families in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao This project is a collaboration between HPI and the Irish development organization Bothar. It aims to help 375 marginal farmers who are living in tribal, upland, and other poor communities in Kalinga, Southern Leyte, and Agusan del Sur. It will enable these families to improve agricultural production, increase income, and transform them into helping and caring communities by providing them livestock and poultry, seeds and other planting materials, tools, training, and other support services. Livestock and poultry production will be integrated in multi-crop farming systems using regenerative and sustainable farming practices. Community Assets Building for Livelihoods and Environmental Sustainability for Luzon This values-based and holistic development project aims to assist 580 tribal and displaced families in Luzon, particularly in the Cordillera Administrative Region and Isabela Province. In five years, these partner families will receive livestock and poultry animals, tools, planting materials, equipment, and training programs to enable them to develop sustainable farming systems that integrate animal farming, crop production, and other related micro-enterprises. With Heifer’s support and facilitation, the project envisions to increase the income and improve the nutrition of the partner families and enhance the environment and natural resources of their communities. Community Assets Building for Livelihoods and Environmental Sustainability for Luzon This project will help restore the livelihood of families living in the disaster prone communities of Bicol and adjoining Quezon Province. A total of 1,260 families (420 original and 840 pass-ons) will form into self-help groups. Original families will receive a combination of large and small animals or fishes along with seeds, seedlings, tools, and microcredit funds for income generation. Training programs on Heifer’s Cornerstones and PSRP, animal husbandry, sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, and others will be provided. The project will also support a community-based disaster preparedness program and natural resources management to enhance community resilience to natural disasters. Community Assets Building for Livelihoods and Environmental Sustainability for Visayas This project aims to help 480 families in three island provinces of Central and Eastern Visayas improve their farm productivity and nutrition, increase their income, and manage their livelihoods. They will receive livestock and poultry animals, tools, planting materials, equipment, and training programs to enable them to develop sustainable farming systems that integrate animal farming, crop production, and other related micro-enterprises. The participating families will also be assisted to put up their own family and group savings. Community Assets Building for Livelihoods and Environmental Sustainability for Mindanao In this project, Heifer will support and facilitate the holistic and values-based development of 500 original families in the remote villages and tribal areas of the CARAGA Region in Mindanao. In five years, these families will receive livestock and poultry animals, tools, planting materials, equipment, and training programs to enable them to develop sustainable farming systems that integrate animal farming, crop production, and other related micro-enterprises. Capacity Building for Partners in the Philippines (CAPP) This two-year project aims to build the capacity of Heifer Philippines' partners on values-based and holistic approach to community development. It also aims to help ensure the success of projects down to the family level. Sixty partner NGOs will undergo training in Cornerstones and in planning, monitoring, and evaluation; financial management and accountability; and animal health. They will hold co-mentoring visits, dialogues with partners in other regions, and reflection sessions. The project will also conduct post training and follow-up activities to assess and further enhance the knowledge of partner NGOs. At the end of the project, they will be mobilized for Heifer Philippines' future training activities. Sustaining Economic and Livelihood Opportunities of Families in Bohol (SELF-Bohol) Project This two-year project fulfills the remaining commitment of Heifer International Philippines with the Let’s Help Bohol Program of Bohol Provincial Government. It will be implemented through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian in collaboration with local government units of 12 municipalities. The project will assist 1,380 family participants classified as island villagers, river bank dwellers, displaced families, victims of submerged communities, women and other marginal poor farmers and fisherfolks in localities of Bohol with the highest poverty incidences, less government assistance and insurgency problems. Our Sub-projects Genuine Inter-tribal Facility in Transformation GIFT for PEACE is a sub-project under Community-based Holistic Development for Marginalized Families in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It aims to facilitate peace among warring tribes in Kalinga Province through inter-tribal passing on the gifts. It will follow the values-based holistic development approach in reducing hunger and poverty in tribal communities and at the same time promote Heifer Cornerstones, particularly nutrition and income and improving the environment. The project will give farm animals, planting materials, and agricultural tools to 40 indigenous families in the villages of Dilag and Nambaran and train them in sustainable agriculture, livestock production, savings generation, and environmental conservation. The project will benefit 60 pass-on families belonging to other indigenous tribes. Revitalizing the Environment through Indigenous A sub-project under Community-based Holistic Development for Marginalized Families in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, REInVEnt aims to uplift the living conditions of 40 poor families in the farming villages of Malin-awa, Tabuk, Kalinga. It will adopt an integrated and holistic agriculture scheme that focuses on livestock and crop production. Families will undergo training programs on institutional and capacity building; savings mobilization; agricultural production ventures; and health, sanitation, and nutrition which will include the livestock-FAITH (Food Always in the Home) component. They will also establish an agricultural buffer zone and regenerate the slash-and-burn area in their community. An additional 40 pass on families will benefit from this project. Peasants Extending Assistance to Support one Another’s Noteworthy Thrusts for Self-reliance (PEASANTS) PEASANTS is a sub-project under CABLES-Luzon. It aims to alleviate poverty of 40 families in the villages of Masla and Batayan in the Municipality of Tadian, Mountain Province. The project will provide animals such as goats and chickens, fruit and forest tree seedlings, and vegetable and forage seeds to the project families. The families will also receive tools and farm materials and undergo training and other educational activities to improve their skills in animal production and management; income generating enterprises; and health, sanitation, nutrition, and environmental practices. In addition to these, they will also undergo training to improve their skills and capacity on organization and project management. Sharing Agri-livestock Resources SHARED is a sub-project under CABLES-Luzon. It aims to increase the income, improve the nutrition, and set up livelihood enterprises for 30 project families in Sagada. The families will undergo training on Cornerstones, animal health care, organic fertilizer making, and improved meat processing. They will also receive chickens, assorted fruit and forest tree seedlings, corn and vegetable seeds, corn grinder, meat processing equipment, and biogas digesters. Thirty additional member families are expected to benefit from through passing on the gifts. Integrating Livestock Production, Environment Protection, and Enterprise Development InLives is a sub- project under CABLES-Luzon. It aims to improve the living conditions of 55 original families in the villages of San Jose, Muños West and San Pedro, Roxas, Isabela by providing them livestock and other farm animals, seeds, small tools, forage planting materials, and trainings. An additional 110 families will benefit at the end of this three-year project. Bio-Intensive Gardening for the Urban Poor BIG-UP is a sub-project under CABLES-Luzon. It aims to improve the living conditions of 40 original families and assure food security for the whole family. BIG-UP will provide resources for the establishment of two communal gardens in Novaliches City. Livestock and vermi-culture will be integrated as additional source of income, food, and organic matter. Families will also receive trainings and other services to improve their capacity to manage the project and build two savings group. BIG-UP will likewise promote sharing and caring, consensus building, and the practice of “bayanihan” system. An additional 40 poor families are expected to benefit through passing on the gifts. Multi-Agricultural Peri-Urban Livelihood Program (MAPULP) MAPULP is a sub-project under CABLES-Luzon. It is an urban poor agriculture project with horticulture, livestock, aquaculture, training, and values education components. The project will be implemented in selected sitios within Barangay Greater Fairview of Quezon City and will benefit 40 original and another 40 pass on families for the next two years. CARE-LIFE is a sub-project under CABLES-Luzon. It aims to increase income and improve health and nutrition of 120 poor families (40 original and 80 pass on) in Bayyo, Bontoc, Mt. Province and at the same time preserve the environment. Families will be organized into self-help groups and will be provided with gifts of livestock, farm inputs, trainings and other resources to facilitate their transformation. Through the Cornerstones, local values will be reinforced to strengthen the unity and cohesiveness among families. Revitalizing Babalag Unity for Integrated Livelihood ReBUILD is a sub-project under Community-based Holistic Development for Marginalized Families in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It aims to help end the hunger and poverty of 41 original migrant families and another 82 pass on families in Babalag, Rizal, Kalinga following Heifer Philippines’ values-based holistic community development (VBHCD) approach. With the use of the gifts of Cornerstones, livestock, training programs, horticulture materials and tools, families will work together to increase farm productivity and income, improve nutrition and environment and build empowered and caring self-help groups (SHGs). Empowered Abra for Sustainable Economy (EASE) EASE is a sub-project under CABLES-Luzon. It will help end the hunger and poverty of 120 families (40 original and 80 pass on) in Barangay Abra, Santiago City, Isabela through values-based holistic community development (VBHCD). Using the gifts of livestock, planting materials farm tools and trainings, participating families will work together to increase their income and generate savings, improve farming practices and the environment, and strengthen family and community relationships through the Cornerstones. Sustainable Environment for Better Living of Families thru Holistic and Encompassing SELF-HELP is a sub-project under CABLES-Luzon. It aims to end the hunger and poverty of 120 poor families (40 original and 80 pass on) in Barangay Bimonton, Mallig, Isabela through the values based holistic community development (VBHCD) approach. Participating families will be empowered to work together to increase their income, improve health and sanitation, eliminate malnourishment, improve the environment and attain sustainable community transformation through gifts of Cornerstones, livestock, farm inputs, tools and equipment and trainings. Happier FAMILY is a sub-project under CABLES-Luzon. This holistic project aims to end the hunger and poverty of 120 (40 original and 80 pass on) families in Otucan Norte, Bauko, Mt. Province by providing them inputs and opportunities to increase income and improve health and nutrition. Participating families will receive the gifts of livestock, trainings, seeds, farm inputs, small tools and equipment. Values Sharing through Agri-livestock V-Share is a sub-project under CABLES-Southeast Luzon. It aims to improve the socio-economic condition of 40 original and 80 pass on families in Barangay Aguit-it, Vinzons, Camarines Norte and enhance the environment through values-based sharing of animals and other resources. Participating families will be organized into self-help groups with 20 families each. The families will receive the gifts of livestock; Cornerstones and technical trainings; vegetables seeds; farm tools; microfund for income generating enterprise and animal disaster shelter; and fruit, forest, and mangrove seedlings. Family-Based Integrated Community Development (FamBaSICDev) FamBasICDev is a sub-project under CABLES-Southeast Luzon. It will assist former settlers of the Bicol National Park, relocated in Purok 7, Barangay Matacong, San Lorenzo Ruiz, Camarines Norte. The resettled families were given farm lots and housing facilities but until now, they do not have permanent source of livelihood and just rely on seasonal crop and tiger grass production. The project will help improve the lives of these families through the gifts of livestock, values and technical trainings, seeds and seedlings, microfund, farm tools, and solar panels. Comprehensive Assistance on Rehabilitation CAREDEV is a sub-project under CABLES-Southeast Luzon. It aims to facilitate better quality of life among 120 families in Cotmon, Camalig, Albay. It will address high malnutrition of mothers and children due to insufficient food production, low income, inadequate supply of potable water, and intensive use of chemical-based fertilizers and pesticides. The project will also promote indigenous health practices and help mitigate disaster risks to improve the resiliency of families to natural calamities. Training on disaster risk reduction and the formation of task force composed of participating families will be conducted in coordination with other agencies and organizations. Alternative Lifestyle for Women in Negros ALL for WIN is a sub-project under CABLES-Visayas. It aims to alleviate the poverty of two women groups: farmers and those in prostitution. The project will provide women farmers with livestock, agricultural supplies, training programs, and other inputs which they will use to increase their present subsistence income and alleviate their standard of living. It will also provide alternative livelihood for women in prostitution by providing them income-generating inputs and training. Both women groups will undergo values strengthening, group formation, and other capacity-building activities. Integrated Household Based Sharing SCALE-UP is a sub-project under CABLES-Visayas. It aims to increase the income and improve the nutrition of 40 upland farming households in the village of Canlugoc, Lunas, Maasin, Southern Leyte. Each family will receive goats, chickens, vegetable and forage seeds, values formation, and various training programs. Another 40 families will benefit through passing on the gifts. Sharing and Caring SCOW is a sub-project under CABLES-Visayas. It aims to help end the hunger and poverty of 40 families in the villages of Lambonao and Mahayahay in Malitbog, Southern Leyte. They will receive chickens, goats, horses, and vegetable seeds. They will be organized into two groups and provided with training and microenterprise inputs. Eighty more families will benefit from the project through passing on the gifts. People’s Alternative to Transformation PATH is a sub-project under Community-based Holistic Development for Marginalized Families in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. This three-year project aims to alleviate the poverty 20 Aeta families in Canguhob, Mabinay and 20 agrarian and evacuee families in Calabnugan, Sibulan, both in Negros Oriental. The families will receive goats, water buffaloes, ducks, chickens, and planting tools and materials. They will be trained on values formation, health and sanitation, organic farming, and environment conservation. Eighty pass on families will also benefit from the project. Families for Economic FIELD is a sub-project under CABLES-Visayas. It aims to bring values-based holistic development to 40 original families in Oy, Loboc and Abucay Sur, Sikatuna, Bohol. These families will receive animals such as water buffaloes, cows, goats, pigs, chickens, and ducks. Aside from managing livestock, they will also establish forage pastures, plant nursery, backyard gardens, and compost pit and plant fruit trees. They will undergo training on values and spiritual formation, leadership and organizational development, and technical and skills enhancement. Children and youth will undergo transformational trainings and other activities. Enterprise and Livestock Integrating E-LIFE is a sub-project under CABLES-Visayas. It aims to improve the lives of 45 families in the villages of Tangkaan in Padre Burgos and Tuno in San Francisco, Southern Leyte. The families will receive livestock, agricultural supplies, and equipment, training, and other services that will enable them to increase their income, improve their health, nutrition, and environment, and develop capacity for project management. Another 45 families will benefit through passing on the gifts. Women in Partnership Endeavor On Ultimate Transformation of Families to Eliminate Poverty This is a sub-project under CABLES-Visayas. It will assist 120 women (40 original and 80 pass-on) who will initiate the changes in their lives and their families through values-based holistic development approach. The project will start with trainings on values, gender sensitivity awareness, organizational and technical skills and organizing of 40 women and their families into two self-help groups. They will also receive the gifts of farm animals, seeds and seedlings, microfund for savings, and other inputs. Strengthening of Families Towards This is a sub-project under CABLES-Visayas. It aims to help end the hunger and poverty of 40 original and 80 pass on families in Barangay Canda-anay, Ayungon, Oriental Negros. They will receive the gifts of farm animals, Cornerstones and technical trainings, seeds and seedlings, tools, equipment, microfund, and other inputs. Strengthening Economic SEED is a sub-project under Community-based Holistic Development for Marginalized Families in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It will bring values-based holistic development to 40 partner-families (a mixture of Higaonon tribe and migrant settlers) in Simbalan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte. They will receive animals such as cows, water buffalo, goats, hogs, and chickens. They will also get farm tools, vegetable seeds, fruit tree seedlings, fertilizers, forage planting materials, feeds, and veterinary supplies. The partner families will be trained on livestock based sustainable agriculture and savings mobilization. Another 40 families will benefit from this project through passing on the gifts. Sustainable Livelihood and Enterprise Development (SLED) SLED is a sub-project under CABLES-Mindanao. It aims to improve the lives of 40 original families in the village of Magupange, Placer, Surigao del Norte. The families will get water buffaloes, cows, goats, and hogs. Through these animals, families will increase their income, generate savings, and improve their nutritional status. A group savings scheme will be introduced to build community assets and spur economic activities. Inputs in horticulture such as planting materials for vegetables, tissue-cultured banana plantlets and other fruit trees, and forest seedlings will also be provided. Farm tools, biogas digesters and veterinary supplies will be given to further enhance their practices on integrated crop-livestock management. Integrated Community Response for Agriculture and Health Systems Enhancement (INCREASE) INCREASE is a sub-project under CABLES-Mindanao. It aims to alleviate the poverty of 31 Mamanwa families in Payapag, Bacuag, Surigao del Norte. The families will receive water buffaloes, cows, goats, and chickens. These animals will help the families to increase their income through integrated and sustainable livestock-crop enterprises. Adult literacy, health and sanitation, and nutrition of families will also be improved. Further, they will be provided with farm tools, biogas digesters, and water system and crop and forage planting materials. Another 31 Mamanwa families will benefit from the project through the passing on the gifts. Improving Productivity through Animal-based IPASA is a sub-project under CABLES-Mindanao. It aims to increase the income and provide food security to 40 original families at Cabangahan, Tago, Surigao del Sur. The families will receive water buffaloes, hogs, goats, ducks, cows, assorted seeds (rice, corn, and coffee), fruit seedlings, rootcrop cuttings, and farm tools. They will likewise undergo training programs on values formation, livestock-based sustainable agriculture, and enterprise development. Biogas digesters, farm tools, and materials for small water system will also be given to partner families to increase productivity and ensure safe and quality water supply. Enhancing Community Assets through Agricultural Productivity and Rural Enterprise (E-CARE) E-CARE is a sub-project under CABLES-Mindanao. It aims to improve the lives of 40 original families in Buatong, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur. The project has five major components: (1) Agriculture and Livestock production; (2) Family Income Improvement; (3) Family Health and Nutrition Improvement; (4) Trainings and Education; and (5) Passing on the Gifts. Families will be formed into two SHGs to increase unity and cooperation. Each SHG will be provided with funds for savings mobilization and credit to increase economic and rural enterprises in the community and promote the habit of savings among project families. The families will receive water buffaloes, goats, hogs, and cows. They will also receive biogas digesters, various farm tools and equipment, fruit trees, seedlings, and vegetable seeds. Another 80 families will benefit from the project as pass-on families. Upland Diversified Farming Enhancement (UpLIFE) UpLIFE is a sub-project under CABLES-Mindanao. It aims to help end the hunger and poverty of 40 original families in Tagbongabong, Remedios T. Romualdez, Agusan del Norte through integrated livestock-based organic sustainable agriculture and savings mobilization. Families will receive animals such as cows, water buffaloes, and goats. They will also receive vegetable seeds, planting materials, farm tools, and equipment and undergo training programs. Biogas digesters will be established in their community to improve animal waste disposal and provide families with gas for household and enterprise use. The groups will have trained community animal health workers (CAHWs) to provide services on animal health and breeding. Developing Resources for Economic Advancement and Sustainable Management (DREAM) DREAM is a sub-project under CABLES-Mindanao. It aims to increase the income and help 40 original families in Caloca-an Magallanes, Agusan del Norte attain food sufficiency through the values-based holistic development approach. Twenty families will each get 120 pieces of crablets and 120 pieces of tilapia fingerlings. They will also receive goats, hogs, micro-fund for savings, vegetable seeds, farms tools, worms for vermin-composting, and community biogas digesters. Values-based and technical trainings will be conducted also for them. Another 80 families will benefit through passing on the gifts. Together Responding for Environmental TREES is a sub-project under CABLES-Mindanao. It will help end the hunger and poverty of 120 (40 original and 80 pass on) families in Los Arcos, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. The three-year project aims to increase the families’ incomes, generate savings, improve nutrition, and promote a healthy environment through agroforestry. The families will receive the gifts of livestock, values and technical trainings, and seed money for microenterprise and savings. Transforming Lives for Holistic Community Development (TransLives-CHD) TransLives-CHD is a sub-project under CABLES-Mindanao. The project will benefit 120 (40 original and 80 pass on) families in Barangay Upper, Patag, Sison, Surigao del Norte. It aims to attain sustainable socio-economic transformation of participating families and at the same time improve the environment. Participating families will receive farm animals and tilapia fingerlings; Cornerstones and technical trainings; vegetable and soybean seeds; banana suckers; and fruit trees and forest tree seedlings. Through these gifts, families will establish livestock-based enterprises to generate income and savings and improve their nutrition. In addition, families will also receive biogas digesters, shredder machines, farm tools, veterinary supplies and biologics, and microfund. Sustainable Holistic and Integrated Project for Family Transformation in Mayag (SHIFT-Mayag) SHIFT-Mayag is a sub-project under CABLES-Mindanao. It will help end the hunger and poverty of 120 poor families (40 original and 80 pass-on) in Barangay Mayag, Sison, Surigao del Norte. Participating families will receive the gifts of farm animals; Cornerstones and technical trainings; vegetable, rice, and soybean seeds; banana suckers; and fruit trees and forest tree seedlings. They will also receive farm tools, feeds grinder machines, and veterinary supplies. Two self help groups with 20 members each will be formed. They will be given micro-fund for savings mobilization and credit. |
