Heifer International is a US-based humanitarian organization that works to end hunger and poverty while caring for the earth. Since 1944, it has uplifted the quality of life of seven million families in 128 countries. By providing animals and farm inputs, training programs, and crucial support services, Heifer facilitates families and communities towards self-reliance and sustainable and holistic agricultural-based development.

Heifer International started working in the Philippines in 1954 when it shipped cattle and goats to needy families in far-flung areas. Up to 1983, it was able to implement 400 animal dispersal projects in partnership with local organizations. In 1986 Heifer International started the groundwork of establishing a Country Program Office in the Philippines, which formally opened in 1990. Since then, Heifer Philippines has helped more than 12,000 marginal families.

In 2004, Heifer Philippines celebrated its 50th year of working in the country. It implemented organizational and program innovations in response to the current challenges of poverty alleviation - emphasizing impact, relevance, accountability, and transparency.

Today, Heifer Philippines is working for the values-based holistic development of poor communities in the country. Through the gifts of animals, farm materials, and livelihood inputs, Heifer Philippines strengthens the values of poor Filipino families and empowers them to work for their own sustainable and holistic development by helping one another.
